Metropolitan police officer Michael Fanone self-deployed to the Capitol on January 6, 2021, where he and fellow officers tried to hold back the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol Building. While working to hold back the rioters, he was brutally attacked with a taser and beaten. He suffered a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury from that attack.
He discusses what happened to him that day in the book Hold the Line: The Insurrection and One Cop’s Battle for America’s Soul. The book also presents a call to action for us to preserve our democracy in the aftermath of this insurrection.
