First, we speak with the executive director for The 100 Club, who discusses how the non-profit organization provides financial support to dependents of law enforcement officers killed or injured in the line of duty.

Then, we talk to Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Chandra Hatcher and Sergeant DeAndre Hutchison who share their stories on how they became police officers and the positive ways their work impacts the community.

We also hear from fellow Houston Police Officer, Sheldon Theragood, who shares his story founding the non-profit organization Theragood Deeds, which seeks to help inner-city youth become positive and affluential members of society. To learn more about Theragood Deeds and for information on how you can volunteer, click here.

The Houston Police Department is always hiring, and are currently offering a $10,000 signing bonus for graduating cadets.  For information on Houston Police Department careers, click here.

The Afro American Police Officers League (AAPOL) also provides mentors to those interested in becoming a police officer.  They also have a scholarship for graduating seniors.  The app goes live February 1 on the AAPOL website.  For more on the Afro-American Police Officers League, click here.

In honor of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, one way to show appreciation is through a thank you note.  If you had a good encounter with an officer, consider writing a commendation letter. A letter can be hand delivered at any police station or you can email it here: [email protected].
