(Sep 25, 2019) The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao, was in Massena yesterday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The Seaway opened in 1959 to connect the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes for shipping. Secretary Chao praised the economic impact of the Seaway and federal investment in its upkeep. Massena is home to two of the seven locks along the Seaway.
