Back in September, Tone Madison contributor Holly Marley-Henschen profiled the work of Reparations Thrift, a mutual-aid group in Madison that uses fashion as a vehicle to bring wealth back into communities of color. Coming up on Saturday, January 16 and 17, the group will host a live-streamed event via its Instagram, boasting a varied lineup of musicians, poets, and other performers, and a virtual raffle. The money raised will support Reparations Thrift's work, and will support the affiliated Project Reco, which distributes emergency funds to BIPOC through a micro-grant program.
Performing across the weekend are singer-songwriter Imani Jade, breakout slacker-rock powerhouse DISQ, rapper-singer Jay Day, ethereal genre-blenders MIIV and Azzy Lei, introspective folk-pop outfit LINE, MC Godly The Ruler, Chicago producer/rapper/singer Deryk G., and poets Ximena Linares and Isha Camara. The virtual raffle portion of the event is already underway and features a wide range of offerings from local artists, crafters, and poets. The event is free to watch, but you can donate to the project via Venmo at Reparations_Thrift. A music lineup like this would be more than worth a cover charge in normal times, so definitely tune in and pony up what you can.
