A little about our guests.
Dee and Angie married in 1987. They were high school sweethearts and after all these years they remain in love and in a thriving and delicious business together. They have 3 children, 2 daughters and a son. One daughter is involved in the restaurant and another is looking to open her own salon. Their youngest son is attending college.This is not Dee and Angie’s first business together. They have had several successful businesses together and separately. They love being with their family. Dee enjoys golf and hunting and fishing. Angie loves relaxing and reading and cooking for the family. They bring business along with them with even on vacation.
A little about their business.
Custard Stand Food Products and The Custard Stand restaurants have been around for 25 years. Started from an old family recipe, Dee and Angie went from one custard stand to a restaurant, food products and franchises.
Growing up, Dee and Angie loved to go to a walk-up dairy bar in our hometown that served the best hot dogs and ice cream ever. In 1991, they decided to open The Custard Stand, a walk-up dairy bar, and bring back those items and more. Over the years, many customers wanted to buy their hot dog chili so they took it to the retail market.
Recently, Dee and Angie appeared on Shark Tank, and while they did not get a deal, their business received the “Shark Tank bump” and had some great exposure.
Dee and Angie were kind enough to send us some of their hotdog chili and chili soup. We ate some as soon as we received it and WOW – it is delicious.
One piece of advice (the nutshell version)
Calculate your risk and take the right risk for your business. When someone says “NO,” ask why. Be persistent and find out what the no was about. That will help you improve and grow.
Believe in your product and what you are doing. Be passionate about what you do.
