A little about our guests. Sharon grew up in New Jersey and then moved to Northern Virginia in High School. Sharon’s fondest memories revolve around food, family gatherings, travelling internationally and cooking. Her background and experience is vast, from retail jobs to an internship with the Supreme Court and a marketing company. Sam grew up in the dry plains of West Texas, the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee and Central Virginia. Sam’s background is as a writer, historian and archeologist. A sci-fi fan who loves Marvel comics, Sam wanted to be Indiana Jones when he grew up. His background goes from being a dish washer in his teens to writing technical manuals and documents for Fortune 100 companies, published historical research and provided software training for the military. A little about their business. Holladay House is a Bed and Breakfast built in the 1800’s. Filled with history from the beginning of the US, Sharon and Sam wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and decided that running a bed and breakfast hit all the buttons. Sam loves history, Sharon loves cooking for others and together they created Holladay House. One piece of advice (the nutshell version) Continue to create personal experiences together outside of the business. Just like empty nesters try to reconnect after the kids are gone, keep creating personal experiences along the way so you don’t have to “reconnect.” Have the self-confidence to go with your gut. Reading Material Sharon reads cook books. Not just looking for recipes, but really reading the book and stories. You cannot mix dairy and meat. Also, bacon and pork in any form is not Kosher. Barry shouldn’t be eating bacon. But he does. Can’t speak to whether or not Sharon eats bacon.
