During his lifetime, Jimmy Hoffa had a long term relationship with the Florida Keys. He was known to come to Marathon for fishing excursions. He frequented local hotels and restaurants. He even pulled off a deal for the Teamsters to purchase Casa Marina Hotel at some point.

He was a larger than life character and loved by all, unless he double crossed you and then you hated him.

It was today, Jan. 29, 1961 that Jimmy Hoffa declared, "Key West has the most pleasant climate in the United States.”
