Women and Words Overview

19-24 November 2017

Jove has discovered Hempire, a game for her phone that is allowing her to become a responsible, community-minded drug lord, something Andi totally approves of. Also, Andi and Jove express appreciation for author Lee Winter’s choices of fictional female bosses to appreciate (and also Cate Blanchett’s character of Hela in Thor) and omg Andi might have a bad girl kink she didn’t know about.

19 Nov.: Author Lee Winter stops by to talk about the appeal of fictional women bosses all power-suited up and making us crazy. Plus, you can pick up a copy of her latest lesbian romance, The Brutal Truth, which features a woman boss.

20 Nov.: Author and Women and Wordster Stevie Carroll talked about one of her fave museums to visit, the living history Beamish, and posted photos of it. Love her rambles through the UK!

21 Nov.: Author and Women and Wordster Ashley Bartlett discussed the difficulties she’s had finding someone to cut her hair because the hair industry is inherently gendered, and women should get X style of cuts and men Y. And in some barber shops that will cut women’s hair, there’s usually a side of sexism. Basically, this is BS. (if you have a hair person you love, share the deets in the comments!)

23 Nov.: Author and Women and Wordster Renée Bess reminded us that in spite of all the horrible, there are still things to be thankful for.

Also, Renée is the co-editor, with Lee Lynch, of the just-released anthology Our Happy Hours: LGBT Voices from the Gay Bars. Find it HERE.

24 Nov.: Author and Women and Wordster Andi Marquette fangirled over Thor: Ragnarök. Three reasons: Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchette, and it’s freakin’ funny.
