The one and only Don McLean joins the program to talk about one of the most well-known songs in the nation's musical history--"American Pie." During part of the conversation, McLean touches on the event that, just two days ago (February 3) in 1959, inspired a rather large slice (or perhaps slab) of American Pie: the passing of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richarson (aka "The Big Bopper") in a plane crash in Iowa.
2021 marks the 50-year anniversary of American Pie, with multiple events planned including the release of an official documentary later this year.
Also featured on today's show leading up to McLean's appearance: interviews with Dave Clark (Dave Clark 5), Mike Love (Beach Boys), and Dionne Warwick.
