Mustard Seed FaithWe all want to see God move in our lives- or at least we SHOULD. I don’t want to just know the Bible stories- I want to experience the Bible stories in my life. not historical- right now-I want to see healings. I want to see deliverance. I want to see mountains moved. BIG STUFFMatthew 17:14-20 READLove this story- Guy has a son who is epileptic- goes to the disciples to have his son healed, they don’t have what it takes, so he Goes to Jesus. Jesus is indignant, heals the boy and then tells his followers that if they would have had faith the size of a mustard seed- they could have done itNow a mustard seed is only 1-2mm across. It’s a very small seed- and Jesus uses this seed as an example of what kind of faith these people should have had to be able to see this boy healedIn my life, I have heard people say before “they didn’t have enough faith” or “they didn’t believe enough” or “ their faith wasn’t strong enough” to get healed, or delivered or whateverThat’s demonic abusive language to use on someone who didn’t see God movePuts the onus on the individual and not on God and we were never intended to be in that placeMatthew 17:20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;” not “your amount of faith”The problem with these disciples was not that they didn’t have enough faith- it was that they had no- faith- they didn’t believe in God- they didn’t believe God or Jesus- no mustardAnd so Jesus challenges them- and says you have NO belief but if you ONLY Had ANY amount of belief in God- you would see AMAZING THINGS- just a small amountLets read the whole verse- Matt 17:20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.This is Bible faith- just believing God. The tiniest amount-not a huge amount, just a tiny amount.Think about Abraham- God told Abraham that he would be the father of many nations, but he was old and his wife was past child rearing age- Seems pretty impossible doesn’t it?Romans 4:18-20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,Romans 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”Abraham believed God- He didn’t waver- against hope- That’s that ‘Mustard seed faith” I’m talking about. Its not a huge faith- its just a little bit of faith that says “I’m gonna believe God’Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.God wants us to have faith- He wants us to believe in him- He doesn’t want us to doubtJames 1:6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.And if we want to see God move- we have to have Faith in him. (Faith is not what you can see)And I get it- sometimes we don’t put our faith in God because we think we’re doing God a favor- if we don’t believe him, and he doesn’t move we don’t make him look badListen- God can take care of himself- he does not need you helping him out by not believing himJesus said- John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

Matthew 17:14-20 READ

In my life, I have heard people say before “they didn’t have enough faith” or “they didn’t believe enough” or “ their faith wasn’t strong enough” to get healed, or delivered or whatever
That’s demonic abusive language to use on someone who didn’t see God move
Puts the onus on the individual and not on God and we were never intended to be in that place

SO- They COULD have cast out the demon IF they had the tiniest bit of faith MUSTARD SEED
I’m of the belief that anyone who is in Christ can cast out a demon- People think bc I’m a pastor there’s some special demon casting anointing on me- but there aint- I just don’t have unbelief.
1 John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
I believe that- I believe the person that Just got saved is more powerful than the prince of darkness- They have more power in them than a legion of demons- Bc they got FAITH
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
This is a true scripture- this is what the Devil does- he goes around looking to hurt people
And in YOUR life- there may be some things in your life that you have been trying to deal with physically that need to be deal with spiritually. Everything can’t be fixed with a pill.
Do you not believe the scriptures? Do you not believe that God’s word is true?
Luke 9:1 Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
IF Jesus gave it to those disciples and we are his disciples, then we walk in that same authority
Luke 10:17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
Yes- yes they are- Now I don’t have time to go into the demon possession master class this morning but suffice to say this- This power is reserved for the believer in Christ- not the occasionally committed. You go after demons and you aren’t a believer- they will get on you
Here’s what the Bible says-
Mark 16:17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
Matthew 10:1 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.
But that takes FAITH- Not a huge amount- just enough- more than nothing- mustard seed
And you WILL see God move- you WILL see demons cast out- you will see things changed
But you must believe-

Mustard faith can Move mountains
Jesus, after healing this boy- tells the disciples- you can move mountains- clearly Jesus didn’t move any mountains in this story- but he did change someone’s life- a mountain to that family
Think of the context- Jesus used and uses hyperbole to make a point
We’re not supposed to cut our hands off, gouge our eyes out, and we wont be able to move a mountain- I can’t move Mt Rainer- but I CAN have mustard seed faith to see things that APPEAR as mountains be REMOVED from my life! Habits, addictions, thoughts, diseases, pain, sin
Mark 11:23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
This family didn’t need a mound of dirt moved from one place to another- they had an Epileptic son that kept throwing himself into fire and water- They needed a mountain moved!
THAT was probably a mountain for them! THAT was something huge they needed removed!
They didn’t come to Jesus and say- This large mountain needs to be moved- they said-THIS is my mountain!
Again- I don’t think its literal mountains we don’t have any stories of mountains being moved in scripture- but we do see MIRACLES in scripture! Big things happening in peoples lives!
1 Corinthians 13:2 though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains,
You can see mountains moved and you can have mountains moved. Mustard seed faith!
what are the mountains in your life that need to be removed
We all have mountains in our lives- things that aren’t going the way we wish they would go
Mountains of pain, addiction, habits, mental stuff, physical stuff, relationships, physical
And here’s the deal- we do things about it- we try to manage it and it may work- but sometimes, either at the beginning or the end- the only thing that can move that mountain is JESUS- and you have to have FAITH as a MUSTARD seed to believe that it can happen!
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
There’s a reason Jesus said-
John 14:12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
John 15:5 for without Me you can do nothing.
Luke 17:6 So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
Those are real scriptures and I am going to believe them- These are the same scriptures that tell me that I’m saved and that I am going to heaven- why am I not going to believe these scriptures as well? If Jesus says the mountains will be removed, My mustard seed faith is going to believe
I haven’t made heaven yet- but I’m believing that I’m going- I haven’t seen my healing yet, but I believe that its coming!
Kathryn duffy- lukemia- 10 years- been dealing with it- infusions, medications, etc. Drs say probably going to die from it, and nothing they can do to stop it- oh btw- you’re cancer free

Nothing Impossible
Here’s what Jesus said- If you have faith the size of a mustard seed. A teeny tiny little mustard seed, NOTHING shall be impossible for you-
I take Jesus at his word- Nothing shall be impossible for you-
There is nothing that is outside of the realm of possibility with belief in God.
People put timelines and outcomes- the word says what it says- impossible- not when
We have many unanswered prayers and things that happen- we begin to believe that Gods word isn’t true because it hasn’t happened yet- on our timeline.
And here’s what you need to get wrapped around your brain- Its not faith in your faith, or faith in belief- its faith in GOD. In HIS ability to do it- “wont he do it”
2 Cor 3:4-5 And we have such trust through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,
People mock preaching like this and say “oh he’s one of those faith preachers”
What else kind of preacher am I supposed to be? Tell you to have faith in yourself?
When Jesus says “nothing shall be impossible” he means it
I’ve seen people go through some of the most insurmountable inconceivable circumstances where it seemed impossible and the God of the possible showed up- Just because they believed
John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’Colossians 1:11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power,Ephesians 6:10 strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.Isa 40:29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.Ephesians 3:16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
Doesn’t that Sound like a God of the impossible!

Robust spirituality
Jesus adds this nugget to these gents- This one does not come out except by prayer and fasting.
This demon isn’t a run-of-the-mill demon. Not a dime store common demon. It’s a demon that isn’t going to come out unless you put some heave into it. You got to get involved
This part of Christian spirituality for some reason is difficult for people to fully grasp
We are taught and believe in Christ’s all sufficient power over sin and death and our inability to add to our salvation and not being works based.
But here- Jesus says- You have to be more involved in the process to see deliverance here.
No different than Daniel Daniel 9:3 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
No Different than Paul 2 Corinthians 11:27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness—
There’s a spiritual principle here that Cannot be missed- Prayer and fasting does more than you think it does to take down the powers of darkness. It grows YOU and YOUR faith in GOD
Not everything spiritual comes easy
2 Cor 12:8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—1 Corinthians 9:27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
You must have an idea of a spirituality that is more than common- All it takes is mustard seed faith. A small miniscule belief in God, and then a continuance in prayer and fasting too see God move
Are there things in your life that you haven’t seen move? Have you placed your faith in God and then went to prayer and fasting?
Yes have belief- but heed the words of Jesus and take that mustard seed faith and plant it by fasting and prayer
The end- Take a step- a teeny step of faith- the size of a mustard seed- see what God will do
