Previous Episode: Shake and Wake

“I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this
diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.”-
Rosa Parks

What if it is all true?

What if it really works to live in faith rather than fear?

Sometimes I feel like these questions needs to be asked. In the work do I
observe people around me whose baseline approach to living is letting fear
be their guide (and I do this occasionally too). Fear is the norm. We are
given warnings all the time, from the first time we hear “no” or “stop” as
infants, to the constant warnings on TV and in media we are bombarded with
as adults. We have become desensitized.

What if it really works to live in faith rather than fear

Sometimes I feel like these questions need to be asked. In the work do I observe people around me whose baseline approach to living is letting fear be their guide (and I do this occasionally too). Fear is the norm. We are given warnings all the time, from the first time we hear “no” or “stop” as infants, to the constant warnings on TV and in media we are bombarded with as adults. We have become desensitized.

To move from fear to faith can be a daunting journey for many. But what if it were the better option?

The challenge of faith is that it requires no proof or evidence that it works. That’s literally the definition. So maybe we need to stop considering faith as the opposite of fear, and start considering love.

Love is a powerful force. I feel certain that we could all find evidence of the way a consciousness rooted in love changes our perspective on things. I am not talking about the big picture, world view aspects of life… I am talking about personal experiences. Where can you see in your life that love was the factor in healing a circumstance?

I have a friend who is moving through a challenging time in life. Nothing seems to be working and there is a skewed world-view of defeat. The challenge for me is that I am able to see the forest through the trees, but this person is not there yet… and no amount of “telling” is going to awaken the greater view. So what can I do? I can be a loving and supportive presence. I can let the person know that I am available for whatever is necessary (provided I REALLY am available—and I am).

Sometimes the healing power of love is rooted in simple availability. Too often we offer advice to those who are experiencing challenge. I learned a long time ago that advice is frequently not helpful. Just being present as love, that is helpful.

I trust my friend is moving through this challenge as gracefully as possible, and I choose to be there in support no matter what.

The journey this person is going through is rooted in that initial question, “What if it is all true?”

Live in love and faith develops.
