Today’s episode is densely packed with information, tips, and incredible insights on the current COVID19 crisis.

My guest today, Dr. David L. Katz, is a preventative medicine specialist and a globally recognized authority on lifestyle medicine. He is a regular guest expert on CNN, Fox News, and Bill Maher and he has just co-authored How to Eat with New York Times columnist Mark Bittman.

Strap in for a deep dive on how to imagine the future even in this state of crisis, what you can do right now to balance your immune system, the COVID-19 risk factors you can influence, and how to find your bearings when information and opinions are so profoundly polarized.

Tips For Better Health, Balance and Clarity

Manage your risk — Dr. Katz says that aside from age, many of the risk factors for a severe COVID-19 illness can be potentially mitigated right now, including: weight, hypertension, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, and inflammation.

Find your balance — Good immune systems are balanced, adjust what Dr. Katz calls the 6-cylinder engine of your lifestyle: Feet, Fork, Fingers, Sleep, Stress, Love.

Invest in yourself — In this time of loss of structure, build a program for your health: take better care of yourself. That’s one less thing you will have to worry about.

Reduce your stress — Be proactive about managing your stress levels. In addition to exercise, there are a myriad of free meditation, relaxation, and mindfulness tools online.

Diet ID — Normally a B2B tool, Dr. Katz has opened up his DietID tool to the public during the Coronavirus crisis; follow this link, take the quiz, and start optimizing your immunity through diet.  https://www.dietid.com

Stay informed with the facts.  Dr. Katz offers a few ideas on how to find reliable sources of information: look at credentials, training, and temperament, and don’t only shop for people who agree with you.  You can also visit True Health Initiative Total Harm Minimization for information and resources.
