All six episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series are available now on Disney Plus. Bottom line: does This is the Way Podcast recommend watching? OF COURSE. It’s STAR WARS.
Is it GOOD Star Wars? Eh.
It’s not awful, but that’s not a glowing recommendation, now, is it? There were plot problems throughout the show. Some resolved, but the resolutions weren’t skillful craft by the writers. In some cases, it was the sheer knowledge that some things could not change that kept the show on the rails. In some cases, that clearly was a line they’d like to test. They even managed to get a subtle jab in on Luke.
It was pretty clear someone at LucasFilm and Disney had a plan to make Reva a star. “Let’s expand the universe” is the woke mantra. It’s a shame, because writing the Third Sister differently might have made that happen, but the best writing seemed to come from the original creator of the character and that writer thought her arc should end in death at Vader’s hands. This is the Way Podcast agrees. It was not just deserving, but prevented the plot hole of sensitive information that we know never gets revealed, but having it out in the universe is like showing a gun off in a play, implying it will get used, only it never gets seen again.
Obi-Wan Kenobi has some great moments. I’d love for someone to just cut the entire lightsaber sequence on the unknown planet into one long cut, ending with “Obi-Wan!” and I prefer to think of Reva as having keeled over and slowly covered by the sands of Tatooine, burying the information of Owen and the child, Obi-Wan and Bail along with a poorly fleshed out member of the Inquisitorious. I’d rather hear more from Roken, Sully, and Tala. Oh, wait. They killed her off.
