Today I am talking with retired police officer, Mark Bua, who served with distinction for 15 years on the San Diego Police Department, winning numerous awards, patrolling and also instructing. He currently runs an investigations and security service in both southern California and in Texas.

This was also the first Real Clear episode that was recorded with video and is available on YouTube.

It is my impression that people in the United States are now ready to have a rational conversation about policing, and that we are very much starting to recover from what has been an (emotionally understandable) social justice hysteria that has gripped the nation for the last three years. This hysteria has brought the nation a dangerous crime wave by way of reducing the police force and emboldening criminal behavior, it has massively impaired racial relations, and as demoralized new recruits as well as veteran officers. Compared to 2019, recruitments are down 60%, and officers are taking early retirement in record numbers across the nation. If we don't find a way to recuperate from the reaction to the killing of George Floyd, this nation will descend further into criminal chaos.

Mark and I discuss the defund movement, race relations, female officers and the push to recruit them, and the insidious effect of progressive woke policies on the organizational structure of police departments.

I hope it represents a growing capacity in all of us to discuss reality on its own terms.
