Most folks are familiar with the 2019 HBO series, Chernobyl, based on the infamous meltdown at the titular nuclear power plant. But common understandings of what really happened at Chernobyl that night are often lacking, fetishized, or reductive. Olivia wanted the real story. This is the first chapter of her deep dive into the big picture - the road to one of the worst man-made disasters in history.
