Everything that comes in a clambake on one platter. This is our thanksgiving platter for a massive turkey.

Who is the Lobster Guy? On today’s episode I interview Captain Tim Handrigan, also known as the Lobster Guy. Captain Tim has grown up in the industry and has tremendous passion for doing things the right way.

A Brief History of Lobster

When Pilgrims first settled in America, lobster was so abundant that people quickly became sick of eating it. Through the years it has evolved from being a poor man’s food to a luxury ingredient. Captain Tim talked about how supply and demand has driven that change.

Doing Things Right

Sustainability is what everyone seems to be talking about these days. Captain Tim was no different. He speaks a lot about the different laws and regulations that are in place. Changes in traps and technology have also allowed them to be more efficient at only catching proper size lobsters.

They have a tradition that many Lobsterman follow. They always throw one back before heading back in. This is a sign of goodwill to Mother Nature that they are willing to leave something there for the next guy. I loved hearing that story.

The Famous Clambake!

Well insulated and packaged. It had icepacks and was kept cold.

The Lobster Guy specializes in a magical item called the clambake. This is a tin that they will send to you that contains clams, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, onions, corn, flounder wrapped sausage, and of course, lobster!!! From talking with Captain Tim I knew I had to get one.

Lobsters were still alive. Just add water and put on the stove.

When the box arrived I was super excited. I think a lot of people can be intimidated by cooking seafood. We all might enjoy eating it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are good at cooking it. That’s where the clambake shines. All you have to do is add a little water and turn on the stove. It is packaged and layered in such a way that it is really that simple.

I’m from Utah. If I wanted seafood growing up, I had to go to the local seafood chain and order a few items. I always thought that was amazing seafood. That’s before I had fresh seafood in the Pacific Northwest and New England. Now I have elevated standards for what I expect out of seafood. Captain Tim’s clambake delivers big in this area.

Inside The Box

The clambake that was sent to me was for 2 people. My brother was the lucky victim that I dragged over for dinner. We both raved about the experience. It wasn’t long before the water started boiling in the tin, and that beautiful briny aroma started to fill the air. It was magical.

We loved and devoured every single component. The lobsters were firm and sweet. They were still alive when they made it to me and the shells were hard. These were quality lobsters folks! The clams were briny and simple. We absolutely loved them.

The secret component was the flounder wrapped sausage. That was something I had never heard of before. I love sausage and I love fish, but I never would have thought to put them together. I’m happy I was able to experience that. My brother agreed.

The Lobster Guy is obsessed with quality. He is incredibly passionate about doing things the right way. His reviews online are off the charts good, and there is a reason for that. It is impressive that you can send a seafood feast all the way to Utah and have it taste incredibly fresh and well prepared. I wouldn’t change a thing about the process. I will definitely be ordering more from the Lobster Guy!

An amazing seafood feast!
