Fall network premiere week is finally here—for most of the networks at least—giving Noel and Kate lots of TV to discuss. We skip the premieres discussed in our Fall Network TV Preview to keep things manageable, but there’s still a whole lot of TV to explore. First we dive in with the week’s comedy premieres, including mixed-ish, black-ish, The Good Place, Superstore, and Mom. Then we move over to drama and genre, with Kate giving her early thoughts on Netflix’s Criminal and both Noel and Kate sharing their reactions to the Emergence and Stumptown premieres, before rounding out the week’s TV with The Great British Bake Off’s “Dairy Week.” Afterward, it’s time for the spotlight section, and this episode we highlight Netflix’s celebrated miniseries Unbelievable, breaking down the performances, its relationship to its based-on-true written predecessors, and how it handles the challenging, but important subject matter of surviving trauma.
