Join us this week as we process the events that occurred over the past couple of weeks, from the high of the Georgia Senate runoffs, to the low of the violent insurrection attempt at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. We grapple with putting these events in context, from the destruction of political and social norms over the past 5 years, to the anti-government rhetoric of the past 5 decades, to the militarism, materialism, and racism that have defined our country for the past 5 centuries. Katie proposes a surprising metaphor for how those days felt. And we all bristle at suggestions that it’s time for “unity.” Released on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we reflect on how his words still ring true today:

“The black revolution is much more than a struggle for the rights of Negroes. It is, rather, forcing America to face all its interrelated flaws: racism, poverty, militarism, and materialism.” – MLK (1968)
