The 200 investors believed the funds would be used to purchase film distribution rights to movies that would be licensed to Netflix and HBO. Horwitz instead supported his lifestyle, which included buying a $6 million home. Horwitz was arrested on April 5, 2021, and on February 14, 2022, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to repay more than $230.3 million.
