Savage or Sensible - Going to Your In-Laws Separately From Your S/O Because You Don't Want to Spend as Much Time There

"Hey guys! There's something my husband and I have been going back and forth on that I wanted you to bring up on the show. So we always go to his family's that live in Buffalo for Thanksgiving and spend a few days there. My in-laws are great, but he definitely likes spending time there more than I do. So this year I through out the suggestion that he goes ahead without me and I could just come for Thanksgiving. In my opinion it's the best of both worlds. He gets to spend as much time with them as he wants and I can be home getting stuff done. He called me a savage and said doing that would hurt his parents feelings. Am I really wrong here? Would love to know what you guys think!" 

What do you think? Would be going separately be savage or sensible?
