Yalitza Aparicio is a Mexican actress who made her on-screen debut as Cleo in Alfonso Cuarón's 2018 drama "Roma", which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Time magazine has named her one of the '100 most influential people in the world' in 2019, and she has more recently graced the cover of Vogue Mexico setting history, and is an activist fighting for gender equality.
Before Cuarón selected Aparicio to play Cleo, Yalitza had just finished her teaching degree and was living in a small Mexican city. Her powerful performance on the big screen has made her an instant star.
