The Author

B James Wilson is an American author from the Space Coast of Florida where he presently lives with his wife and family. Bruce grew up in Miami and as you can imagine summers there where hot, so to cool down, a favourite past-time of his was to go boating and fishing around Biscayne Bay along Miami’s stunning waterfront.

Before he could graduate from Miami Palmetto High school Bruce’s family moved to Florida’s Space Coast where they joined the ‘race to the moon’ in 1964. For those of you who can’t remember what the ‘race to the moon’ was all about, let me refresh your memories. It was President John F Kennedy’s focused declaration for America to beat the Russians in putting a man on the moon.

After graduating from Satellite High school, Bruce joined the US Navy. Part of his training was in Memphis Tennessee, he served in Vietnam as well as other pacific locations. Since his service days he has travelled the world extensively and has lived in places like Ireland, Germany, Japan, Guam, The Philippines and California.

When you look at Bruce’s life you can say he has led a full and varied existence. He studied Computer science at Brevard Community College, Quality Systems and Demand-Pull Manufacturing Techniques at the University of Florida, and Biblical Studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. To this menagerie of careers, we now must add writing. Bruce writes covering several genres but for the purpose of this podcast we’re going to concentrate on his book ‘The Oubliette.’

The Book

The Oublette- Book 1 in The Bible Book Club Series

When I looked at this book my first question was why the title and what is an oubliette? The word itself derives from the French word ‘oublier’ meaning ‘to forget’ and it refers to a secret dungeon where the sole access was via a trap door in the floor of a building mainly a medieval castle where persons condemned to perpetual imprisonment or to perish secretly were thrown down and forgotten about. The oubliette would be a pit of darkness and in this book imaginatively created by B James Wilson the oubliette isn’t so much a physical medieval construction but more the evil forces that have prevailed since time imprisoning minds in dark forgotten places.

This powerful fictional story of one man’s confrontation with evil, is breath-taking. The roots of the book grow out of biblical origins which stem from the authors own biblical understandings of scripture. The whole story is built around Mike Brennan the main protagonist and his terrifying journey from his own dark mindset to coming into the light. What Mike encounters along the way, very often brings him into unchartered waters of the unexpected and unwelcome. As B James Wilson takes Mike on this daunting journey, he creatively talks about the profound questions of life that we all very often want answers to. As In life, the answers that come back are very often not the answers we’re looking for, and the sources from whence the answers originate, at times, can be unnerving. What is the nature of Mike Brennan’s dark ’oubliette?’ The answer to that question is for you to read and discover for yourself in this page-turning novel by B James Wilson.

Other books written by Bruce are. Triangle: A Memoir of Black Caesar, and The Practician: A Gray Empire Novel.
