The Author

Frank Talaber was born in Beaverlodge, Alberta, where the claim to fame is a fox with flashing eyes in the only pub. When he was a young child he moved with his family to Edmonton, Alberta. He got tired of the endless winter months there and now a young independent man he moved to Chilliwack in British Columbia Canada the place he and his wife Jenny now call home. When you look at Chilliwack on Google Earth you can see the breath-taking beauty of the area with the Canadian Rockies in the background. Yes, they get snow in Chilliwack during the winter months and on the odd occasion Frank is forced to search out the snow shovel. A trip to nearby Vancouver is always on the cards for a bit of cosmopolitan life.

Frank is a licenced automotive technician by trade and has spent most of his life tinkering around under the bonnets of cars or managing automotive shops, many  a time he’s had to tell the local customers bringing in their old rust bucket bangers hoping for some miracle cure that will sustain their motor for the next few months that they’re not worth fixing, push’em down to the scrap yard, if your lucky you might get a few dollars for metal and parts. We’ve all been there at some stage of our lives.

What drives his wife Jenny to utter despair is when he gets up in the middle of the night to hammer out some sort of prosaic induced brilliance, which in the cool light of day turns out to be some mind-blowing pile of gibberish. However, people who have read Frank Talaber’s books describe him as a natural storyteller who writes like his soul is on fire and his pencil is his voice screaming. Literature written beyond the realms of genres, whose compelling thoughts are freed from the depths of the heart and subconscious before being poured onto the page. They, go further to say that they find his books, grabbing, hilarious at times and screaming everyday life. Those nightly moments of scribbling in a notepad haven’t always been fruitless, evidenced by these amazing books he’s published.

To date he has over fifty articles/short stories, sixty blog posts, over ten interviews under his belt as well as fifteen novels written or published. 

Frank was once asked, ‘where does all this creativity come from?’ he answered, ‘It’s the Gypsy blood from my mother’s Hungarian ancestry.’

Thirteen chapters of glorious storytelling, written in an everyday easy style that’s what you want from a good book, and Frank Talaber gives that to you here in the first of his books that make up the Stillwaters Run Deep series. The narrative initially concerns the felling of an old growth forest, the sobbing trees as they were axed to their death. Within the old forest is rare tree which has something of noteworthy about it, with its felling by an unsuspecting environmentalist something unknowingly is released into the world. A local reporter going under the name Brooke Grant searches for answers. But, what his investigation reveals is highly intriguing, a shaman, love gained and lost, but to what and who? Are Brooke and this exceptional shaman really setting out to save a woman or something more sinister that threatens to change the world as we know it. What was it that was unleashed from that one rare tree in the old growth forest now felled?
