Psychosocial Political Dysfunction of the Republican Party

The Author

Dr Daniel Brubaker is an American author who presently resides in the US state of California. He grew up on a farm in Lancaster County Pennsylvania among the Amish and Mennonites.

His father was a horticulturist, and the farm produce was sold at local farmer’s markets as well as being exhibited at nearby fairs.

The family tree has been traced back to the reformation in Lake Zurich Switzerland. As an Aa-Baptists the family faced unimaginable persecution and death at the hands of the then Catholic community, so much so the family were forced to flee across the border into neighbouring Germany where again as a family they had to endure the religious years of the 1600s. Finally, the family emigrated to America in 1701 encountering all the perils that went with travel at that time, particularly the treacherous sea passage across the Atlantic no doubt like many seeking a better life in the Americas they would have travelled third class in the boat’s hold tolerating endemic sickness. Many never made it to America they simply died trying. Dr Daniel Brubaker is a tenth generation American.

Dr Daniel was educated in Pennsylvania. After medical school he did a post-graduate training at the University of Pittsburgh Health Centre. While he was there, he went about doing his own research and published five papers in medical journals. The University at the time had an explorer’s club where he learnt to both rock and ice climb, his most memorable climbs were in 1979 when he climbed Mt McKinley in Alaska and 1989 when he ascended Mt Rainer in Washington State. Dr Brubaker also likes to include cross country and alpine skiing in his repertoire of outdoor pursuits along with sea kayaking, mountain biking, fly fishing and photography.

In 2004 Dr Daniel went to Tibet, or to be more precise these days the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China to look at traditional Tibetan medicines and their practices. He published his first book ‘Endless Time,’ a photo documentary with Buddhist verses.

Finally, Dr Brubaker published in medical journals and textbooks his findings of a new medical disease, he calls Post-Transfusion Graft- Versus -Host Disease.

The Book

Dr Brubaker’s book explores the thought that the Republican Party known as the Grand Old Party has somehow drifted from its original political concepts of unification established in the Lincoln era, and that it is no longer able to properly separate core fundamental facts from fiction, deceptive conjectures and outright untruths. In his censorious dissection Dr Brubaker refers to the behaviour of some republicans within the GOP as childlike and even goes as far to say that he believes that some of those at the top of the party have antisocial personality disorders.

When you look at the book you get a clear sense that Dr Brubaker firmly believes that there are those in the party who are unable to separate socialism from pragmatic utilitarianism, and that they are as he describes’ buzzwords’ to instil fear in Americans about the Democrats.

What I found fascinating was how Dr Brubaker explored the neuropsychological development of young children to try to explain how some in the GOP function themselves, particularly in Public. And of course, he looks at how as he puts it a ‘clinically psychopathic’ president usurped the whole process using crowd psychology. Which president was that! well I let you all figure that out for yourselves when you read the book. Check out the video chat here:

There are ten chapters in this phenomenon book, it would be fair to say that this book is not a cuddly bedtime read, it was never written to be that it is a book to make you stop and think. Now whether you agree or not with Dr Brubaker’s thinking’s that’s for you to decide. For me out of all the Chapters the following stood out:

Chapter 1: Republicans Confusion in Differentiating Fact versus Fiction

Chapter 2: Republicans Behave Like Toddlers

Chapter 5: Understanding Crowd and Herd Psychology

Chapter 8: Psychology of President Donald Trump

Chapter 9: Summation of the Psychosocial Dysfunction of the Republican Party

Enjoy the Book for Dr Brubaker has some interesting thoughts to ponder over.
