On the latest episode of #talkinthrones, Dom & Professor Pat witness the ripple effects of what happens when someone tries to do the right thing in Westeros with Episode 8 of Season 1, entitled The Pointy End! The episode begins with the immediate fallout from Ned's betrayal of last episode, and man, it sure does hurt to be a Stark in King's Landing at this point! Arya takes her first life this episode, finally paying homage to Jon's warning when first gave her the sword. Speaking of Jon, at the Wall, him & Sam have their first encounter with the dead when a routine inspection of two dead bodies with blue eyes found north of the Wall turns into a nightmare scenario when they come alive and attempt to murder the Lord Commander. Catelyn receives a letter detailing Ned's betrayal and realizes her sister is useless and insane and rides to her son's aid. Tyrion also rides to the aid of someone close to him, in this case his father, with surprise back up from some Hill Tribesmen, while Daenerys witnesses the harsh reality of war up close and personal when the Khalasar pillages a village. But the focus of tonight is none other than Robb Stark, who truly comes into his own here. After receiving word of his father's "betrayal," Robb summons his banners, says goodbye to Bran, and rides south to free his father. Robb's journey is ultimately that of a tragic one, as he is thrust into a position of major responsibility much earlier than anticipated, and though he does well with it, it's ultimately his inexperience with people that ends up getting the better of him, and all that starts here. In addition, we talk about the White Walkers, and how this episode establishes their lore and mythos and the overwhelming threat they pose to the realm.
