Kim's Convenience is a Canadian television sitcom that premiered on CBC Television in October 2016. It depicts the Korean Canadian Kim family that runs a convenience store in the Moss Park neighbourhood of Toronto: parents "Appa" (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and "Umma" (Jean Yoon) – Korean for dad and mom, respectively – along with their daughter Janet (Andrea Bang) and estranged son Jung (Simu Liu). Other characters include Jung's friend and coworker Kimchee (Andrew Phung) and his manager Shannon (Nicole Power). The series is based on Ins Choi's 2011 play of the same name. The show ran for five seasons, from October of 2016, and airing its final episode a couple of weeks ago on April 13, 2021, after the show was abruptly cancelled due to the series creators walking away before the show's ordered sixth and final season, prompting the network to end it rather than attempt to continue it without the creators. While we will miss the show and forever be angry that another one of our favorite shows was taken from us too soon, the #talkintv boys get together to honor and celebrate one of their favorite shows of the last couple of years. In this episode, they talk about the show's fifth and final season, the production problems that plagued it due to Covid, the cancellation and the absense of star Simu Liu, who was off filming Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel. In addition, they talk about what made the show so special; the growth of the characters over time and whether the finale, impromptu as it was, worked.
