We're into the second quarter of the year people! April and Spring are upon us, which means a whole new batch of movies, and we're kicking it off with what will probably be the first close to a billion dollar hit of the year, the Super Mario Bros. movie! After a string of successful video game adaptations, Dom & Luk Reviews break down the latest entry from Illumination & Nintendo, Mario's parent company, which sets out to provide a nice, family friendly film filled with colorful visuals and plenty of references to the game. People are so used to and conditioned for all their animated movies being filled to the brim with pop culture references, self aware meta narratives and innuendos, so normally a movie this safe would annoy me. But the movie remains steadfast to its principles, and the principles of the game. Mario (Chris Pratt) & Luigi (Charlie Day) are regular plumbers attempting to start their own company in Brooklyn when they are sucked down a wormhole into another realm where they must save the mushroom kingdom led by Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) from the evil Bowser (Jack Black), teaming up with other allies like Toad (Keegan Michael-Key) & Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) along the way. We also broke down the latest film from Matt Damon & Ben Affleck, Air as well as the first two episodes of this season of Succession. Be sure to keep tuning in to the #talkintvpodcast for more great episodes every week.
