It's a whole host of content! This may very well be the biggest memorial day yet after 2 straight years of really nothing! But with the release of Top Gun: Maverick in theaters, the debut of the long awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ and the return of the long awaited fourth season of Stranger Things, its a content competition to see what can get viewers eyeballs! First up is Top Gun: Maverick, the long in the making and then releasing sequel to the 1986 classic starring Tom Cruise, returning to the cockpit as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, now in the mentor position as he has to train a new generation of pilots to carry out a dangerous mission, among them Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller) the son of Maverick's late co-pilot Goose. Then we have Obi-Wan Kenobi, an oddity in the Star Wars streaming canon fodder in that it's been a project long in the making, as fan demand for the return of the beloved Jedi knight is really what prompted this into existance. Based off the original movie script by Hossein Amini, adapted into television form by Stuart Beattie & Joby Harald and directed by "The Mandalorian" season 1 director Deborah Chow, the series sees the return of Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi knight as he undertakes a mission to rescue Princess Leia when she is captured by Inquisitors in a ploy to pull him out into the open. And finally, we have the return of Stranger Things, another show that fell victim to Covid and has been several years since its last season. But with the very much increased budget, the extra time taken to give attention to the scripts, the massive amount of story contributing to each episode and a sense of a return to familiarity in the sort of combined comfort and thrills the Duffer bros are able to inject into the show, it feels like the return of an old friend.
