Streamer says she received an email from Twitch warning of DMCA strike for performing covers

As we've talked about many times recently Twitch is cracking down on DMCA claims against streamers. This next story though might leave you wondering what can't be copyrighted.

From DOT Esports

Musician and Twitch partner AyyTrae shared during a recent stream that she received an email from the platform informing her that her covers could wind up resulting in her receiving a DMCA strike on her channel.

“Previously Twitch said it was fine as long as you’re controlling every aspect of the music so I was playing the guitar and I was singing,” AyyTrae said. “So it should have been fine but now they’re saying that I cannot have covers of music.”

While covers aren’t commonly thought of as targets for DMCA takedowns, they still breach the copyright infringement laws over the composition of a song, leaving them vulnerable to being flagged.

AyyTrae’s words come just over a week after Twitch sent out a batch of DMCA takedown notices to streamers, along with an email detailing what creators should do to protect themselves from being targeted.

I hope the dmca attorneys don't start hanging out in local bars on saturday nights.

Irish - Does this seem excessive to you? What do you think Twitch needs to do to give its creators a little more protection?

Dr Disrespect likely banned from $300K World Series of Warzone tournament over Twitch ties

Bad news for fans of violence, speed, and momentum. According to the World Series of Warzone ruleset and Twitch partnership, it seems that Dr Disrespect will be banned from the $1.2 million tournament.

Warzone is getting its biggest event series of all time: the World Series of Warzone, which has a $1.2 million prize pool and puts 150 streamers, pro players, and content creators in private lobbies. And it looks like Doc will be prevented from participating, let alone getting any air time.

Twitch Rivals is partnering with the WSOW and that isn’t good news for Doc fans. For one, the ruleset asserts that all players “shall broadcast their gameplay exclusively on the streaming platform designated.”

Additionally, the ruleset also explains that all participants must “be in good standing with respect to the applicable broadcast platform on which the WSOW Tournament is distributed.”

Tighe - Do you see this as a Mistepp by the tournament given the Docs popularity? Should they work to try allow him to be involved?

Streamer JubileeBlais banned for linking OnlyFans on Twitch twitch

Jubilee Blaisdell aka JubileeBlais has been banned from Twitch following attempts to promote her OnlyFans during one of her live stream.

Twitch streamer JubileeBlais has been caught in action violating Twitch ToS that forbids actively promoting other platforms, namely OnlyFans during live streams for which they have allotted a “Bio” section for all links for external websites. Her channel being marked for mature content doesn’t let her get away with promoting suggestive content.

JubileeBlais confirmed that duration of the ban to be 3 days but in the meanwhile fans can find her content on YouTube. She was aware of the ToS that prohibited sharing any links to mature and suggestive content.

So far out, there isn’t any explicit display of nudity on her OnlyFans but Twitch couldn’t care less. Even though she has promised to suggestive content  “but I’ll still post some sexy selfies till I figure it out idk”. read one of her Tweet. However, as of now she’ll have to wait for 3 days before she can get back to producing her Pokemon content.

Stump - If promoting other platforms is against TOS every streamer on this platform is in big trouble.

Xbox Will Be Built Into TVs, Xbox-Branded Streaming Devices Announced

Microsoft is working with TV manufacturers around the world to "embed the Xbox experience directly into" internet-connected TVs. The idea is you'll be able to play Xbox games with no additional hardware, except for a controller. This is a very big deal because it opens up a potentially much larger audience for Xbox: people who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a console but still want to play games on their TV.

Additionally, Microsoft announced that it is "exploring new subscription offerings" for Game Pass that will allow "more players around the world can experience the most immersive and fun games across devices, geographies, and financial realities." The company did not share any specifics about this, however, but clearly the aim is to get more subscribers.

In another effort to expand Xbox, Microsoft is working with telecom providers on "new purchasing models" like Xbox All Access that allow users to get a console (with Game Pass) for a monthly price instead of paying more up front. This is the model that has been popular and widespread for smartphones for many years.

Another way Xbox is expanding is by launching Game Pass in more regions. The service will come to Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and Japan later in 2021.

Irish - Do you think this will take off or do you think traditional gamers will balk at this?

Twitter brings Revue newsletter subscriptions right into user profiles

Newsletters are coming to a Twitter profile near you. Or, at least the chance to sign up for them is.

Twitter is set to continue its ongoing reinvention of the most sacred of social-media spaces — the user profile — in the next few weeks with the addition of a newsletter subscription button. The goal, as the company explained to Mashable, is to help newsletter writers better leverage their existing Twitter followers in an effort to grow their subscriber bases.

The "subscribe" button, which will live prominently on the profile pages of those who choose to turn on the feature, will be available to anyone with a Revue account (sorry, Substackers). The move shows the continued emphasis Twitter is placing on newsletters following its January acquisition of the subscription newsletter service.

Writers can use Revue to generate free or paid subscription newsletters. Twitter takes a 5 percent cut of the latter.

According to a mockup, Twitter users will be able to both subscribe to newsletters and read a "sample issue" directly on a writer's Twitter profile page.

Tighe - What sort of use do you see content creators getting from this?

House Lawmakers Say They Want to Break Up With Big Tech

A bipartisan coalition in the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced new antitrust legislation aimed at prying open Big Tech’s death grip on our lives. If the lawmakers get their way, it could mean that some of America’s largest tech companies will actually be broken up.

The bundle of five new bills, introduced by legislators in the antitrust subcommittee, comes at a time when Americans increasingly agree that the “Big Four” (Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple) and others of their ilk are way, way too big.

“Right now, unregulated tech monopolies have too much power over our economy,” said Antitrust Subcommittee Chairman David N. Cicilline in a statement. “They are in a unique position to pick winners and losers, destroy small businesses, raise prices on consumers, and put folks out of work. Our agenda will level the playing field and ensure the wealthiest, most powerful tech monopolies play by the same rules as the rest of us” and would also prevent such a company from owning other businesses that create “conflicts of interest.”

Stump - How do you hope/foresee this shaking out?

Ricky & Morty Movie Will Happen Says Show Producer

Lastly from screen rant

While fans eagerly wait for season five of Rick & Morty to drop later this month, the show's producer lets loose that the trippy, sci-fi comedy will eventually be made into a movie.

As told to Metro, Rick & Morty producer, Scott Marder, says that a movie will happen at some point. Marder sat down with writer Dan Harmon and actress, Spencer Grammer (the voice of Summer), for a roundtable interview. The trio discussed the possibilities of making their show jump to the big screen.

While a Rick & Morty movie has not been officially confirmed, nor is it in any form of production, creator Justin Roiland has fueled the rumors by saying that it's more a question of "when" and not "if." During the roundtable interview, Grammer explained her idea of how a full-length film could work by offering up the possibility of a "3D interactive movie" or even a 4D style flick like the ones featured in theme parks (recall Shrek 4D at Universal Studios).

Irish - Does this series really have anything to gain from a feature film? I would rather Dan Harmon finally make the Community movie.

Critical Role’s next campaign launches this month with a new Dungeon Master

AfterAfter six years, two campaigns, and 265 livestreamed episodes, Critical Role is doing something new in the world of Exandria. The Dungeons & Dragons actual play series is launching an eight-part mini-campaign with a new Dungeon Master (DM). The story is set some thirty years after the end of season one, and a full decade after season two — which featured a group of characters known as The Mighty Nein. Best of all, creator Matt Mercer will be joining the fun as a full-time player character.

The new actual play series is titled Exandria Unlimited, and it kicks off on June 24 on Twitch and YouTube. Taking the reins as DM will be Aabria Iyengar, CMO of Dice Envy and a popular actual play performer in her own right. Fans of Iyengar’s work will recognize her from Mother Lands , Happy Jacks , Dimension 20, and Saving Throw — where she also spent time as the DM.
