In this episode, we talk about one of the most scary things as a parent to autistic children eloping.
It’s common for children who have autism spectrum disorder to run or wander away from caregivers or secure locations. This is called elopement. Elopement is common in children with autism and can be a traumatic situation for a child and caregivers. Understanding why your child elopes and how to prevent it may help decrease stress and prevent accidental injuries.
We discuss some of our greatest fears, some situations we have been faced with with our children, and the heightened safety precautions we have to put in place to keep our kids safe.
