Ruth Gilligan is a novelist and academic from Dublin now based in the UK where she works as a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham. She has published five novels to date and was the youngest person ever to top the Irish bestsellers' list. Her most recent book,The Butchers, came out in March 2020 and is set in the borderlands during the 1996 BSE crisis. Ruth is an ambassador for the global charity Narrative 4, which uses storytelling to foster empathy between diverse young people around the world.
