Start or Sit These Players on Monday Night to Win Week 10 Fantasy

I will be with you every step of the way with recommendations on who to start and who to sit for every Monday Night Football matchup. Without further ado, let’s make the moves required to wrap up your Week 9 victory. This week we take a look at the NFC West showdown between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers.

Quarterback

Matthew Stafford – Los Angeles Rams
Sully’s Rank: QB6

Entering Week 10, Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford is sitting at QB4 with 202.54 fantasy points. Stafford is averaging 22.50 points per game. His points per game average (QB7) includes Week 9’s 15.06 point outing against the Tennessee.

The game against the Titans last week was Stafford’s worst game of the season, and I fully expect him to bounce back this week facing the San Francisco 49ers. Their defense has allowed six quarterbacks to score 19-plus fantasy points, including five with over 20 and two with over 25 points. The Niners are giving up on average 21 points per game to the opposing QB, which ranks 5th worst in the league.

Jimmy Garoppolo – San Francisco Forty-Niners
Sully’s Rank: QB22

Jimmy Garoppolo has scored 20+ fantasy points in two straight games. He has George Kittle back, and Brandon Aiyuk appears to have remembered how to play this game as of late.

I wouldn’t bet on much from this 49ers offense in Week 10, and Jimmy G’s 20+ point streak likely crashes back to Earth. The Rams are holding the opponent’s QB to 17.5 points per game (8th best), and now they welcome Von Miller into the fold. Jimmy G is a back-end QB2 this week and should be avoided in all 1QB leagues.

Running Back

Los Angeles Backfield

Towards the tail end of the preseason, the Rams acquired Sony Michel from the New England Patriots in an attempt to shore up the backfield hole left by the injured Cam Akers. At the time of the trade, it looked like the Rams were setting us up for a committee approach with Michel and Darrell Henderson.

San Francisco is the 12th worst defense this season against the run allowing on average 25.4 PPR points a game. In their 8 games this season, they have allowed a total of 10 touchdowns to opposing running backs.

As we enter Week 10, it has become evident that this backfield belongs to Henderson. Henderson enters the second half of the season as RB12 with a weekly average of 16.5 PPR points. I have him ranked at RB11, and in my opinion, he is a must start.

As for Sony Michel, as long as Henderson is healthy and active, Michel will remain on my bench regardless of the matchup. I have Sony ranked at RB47 in Week 10, and if at all possible, I prefer to keep him on my bench.

San Francisco Backfield

Entering the season it looked like the Niners would be led by Raheem Mostert once again, and there was plenty of preseason hype for Ohio State rookie RB, Trey Sermon. As we roll into Week 10, Mostert is on IR, and Sermon is sitting at RB79 with a total of 21.8 points. The back that has led the way to the surprise of everyone is 6th round rookie Elijah Mitchell.

The Rams enter this week with the 15th stingiest fantasy defense against the running back position. This is a good run defense that has allowed 23.8 points per game and a total of 8 touchdowns in 9 games. The addition of Von Miller should help solidify this defense.

I have Mitchell ranked 17th this week, and I see him as a solid RB2. As for the remainder of the Niners backfield, I left Sermon unranked this week, and I have Hasty at RB56 and Wilson at RB63. Wilson is the back that I would prefer to roster. We have seen him produce in limited quantity at times in the past, and Kyle Shanahan likes him carrying the ball near the stripe. If a 49 RB scores on Monday, don’t be surprised if it’s Wilson. Regardless, I can’t bet on a TD, so he is on the bench with Hasty and Sermon.

Wide Receiver

Los Angeles Wide Receivers

This in one of, if not the best wide receiver corps in the NFL. That was before the Rams added former Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr.

The Niners enter Week 10 as the 10th best fantasy defense against the opponents’ WRs. This, however, is a very misleading number. At times this season, the Niners preferred method of defending receiver is to be flagged for pass interference. P.I. moves the ball but robs our fantasy managers of what we all seek–fantasy points. This is a secondary that I would anticipate the Rams feasting on on Monday night.

Cooper Kupp is a slam dunk must start. Kupp tops the WR fantasy standings with 235.4 PPR points, nearly 6 full points per game ahead of No.2 Tyreek Hill. Kupp has been so good with Matthew Stafford this season that he has already exceeded his entire 2020 total of 208.7 PPR points. Kupp averaged 13.9 PPP points a game in 2020, and in 9 games this season he is averaging 26.2. I have Kupp ranked as my WR1 this week.

Prior to the news of Robert Woods’ torn ACL on Friday, I had Woods ranked as my WR21, Van Jefferson as WR37, and newcomer Odell Beckham Jr. as WR117. I wasn’t sure that OBJ was going to play, and if he did, I wasn’t expecting it to be much.

Now that Woods is out for the season, I have moved both Jefferson and Beckham Jr. up my rankings. Jefferson moves up to a WR2 level start at WR22 up from WR38, and OBJ moves up from WR117 to WR48.

San Francisco Wide Receivers

Deebo Samuel has been a pleasant surprise this season, and Brandon Aiyuk has been a significant fantasy disappointment. Deebo enters Week 10 as WR4, averaging over 20 PPR points a week. Aiyuk is WR68 averaging less than 7 points a week.

The Rams defense has been leaky at times this season against all positions, and wide receiver is no different. L.A. ranks as the 14th best unit against opposing WRs, allowing 34.3 points per game and a total of 6 touchdowns on the season.

Start Deebo Samuel this week, and every week really. Deebo makes things happen with the ball in his hands and is one of the more electric WRs after the catch. Jalen Ramsey doesn’t shadow anyone anymore, but he should still have an impact on Deebo. The rest of the Rams’ secondary is solid as well. Combined with a formidable pass rush, I see the Niners struggling. That said, I still have Samuel ranked at WR17.

Brandon Aiyuk is also a start for me. I have him ranked as a low-end WR3 coming in at WR33. Aiyuk has been better as of late and seems to have climbed out of Shanahan’s dog house. In the first six weeks of the season, he ranked at WR96. Since his Week 6 bye, Aiyuk has ranked as WR26 which includes a 1.90 dud in Week 7.

The remainder of the Niners WR crew, namely Mohammed Sanu and Trent Sherfield, are on my bench and shouldn’t be rostered in a redraft league of any size. Sanu is my WR86 this week, and I didn’t rank Sherfield inside my top-130 WRs.

Tight End

Sully is back with Start or Sit These Players on Monday Night to Win Week 10 Fantasy.

Tyler Higbee – Los Angeles Rams
Sully’s Rank: TE14

Tyler Higbee had a solid Week 9, as he was targeted 10 times and scored 10.1 fantasy points against the Titans. The Rams had to throw the ball a bunch due to a negative game script, however, and I’m not sure that will be the case this week. The Niners have also held tight ends in check for the most part, allowing just three touchdowns to the position this season.

I would prefer not to start Higbee this week, but based on the TE landscape I can understand why you may have to. I don’t hate him this week, I just don’t love him. He is my TE14 in Week 10, and if you do start him I believe you’ll need him to score to be relevant.

George Kittle – San Francisco Forty-Niners
Sully’s Rank: TE3

George Kittle is back. When George Kittle is in the Niners lineup, you start him; it is as simple as that. In his return to the lineup in Week 9, Kittle put up 20.1 PPR points and finished as the TE2.

The Rams are beatable when targeting the TE. They rank 13th worst this season, allowing 14 points per game and they have seen 3 TEs score this season. Other than T.J. Hockenson in Week 7, the Rams have not faced a TE of real fantasy significance this season. Kittle as a slam dunk start should surprise no one.
