#57 - To Hell with the "Bad Mom" Stereotype: Motherhood and Sex Work w/ Lil Kat

We've all heard the negative stereotypes when it comes to sex work, but it gets worse when you or if you decide to bear a child. Calgary-based stripper, Lil Kat, joins me on the show this week to speak about the additional struggles of being a mom AND being a sex worker. The mislabeling of sex worker moms is a tired double standard which continues to happen to this day. We discuss Sigmund Freud's Madonna/whore complex which is still perpetuated to all moms today, regardless of their occupation; however, it hits harder when it comes to sex workers. Lil Kat opens up about the challenges she currently faces as a dancer which come from outsiders looking in, friends and family and even her partner. But it's not all negative - we also discuss the pros of being a sex worker during pregnancy, working conditions in corporate jobs vs. the sex industry, and the perks of creating content on your own time on various platforms (Lil Kat uses Premium Snapchat, OnlyFans, and her own direct site). Oh, and I spill a little tea on the Elle Stanger controversy which you can look up on your own time!
