Previous Episode: Improving Public Health
Next Episode: Caring for Our Veterans

My dear friend Paul Grever tells his story in this episode. Throughout his life he never felt comfortable in his own skin. Suffering in silence, he operated under the strategy “Fake it until you make it”. People pleasing is a common thread between those that suffer with behavioral health challenges. Paul always put the happiness and health of others above his own.

He started using drugs and alcohol in high school and it progressed slowly throughout his life. It eventually became unmanageable and he contemplated taking his own life on several occasions. Finally, he was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. Paul moved out of town and checked in to a treatment facility. This geographical change worked and he is thriving in recovery away from the old people, places and things.
