Previous Episode: Nutritional value of rice coproducts fed to pigs
Hybrid rye has agronomic advantages over other common cereal crops, and can also be used in diets fed to pigs. Molly McGhee, a graduate student in the Stein Monogastric Nutrition Lab, discusses the nutritional characteristics of hybrid rye. She then presents the results of experiments to determine the digestibility of amino acids and starch in three hybrid rye varieties compared with barley, wheat, and corn. Adapted from a presentation at the 2018 ASAS Midwestern Section meeting, Omaha, NE, March 12-14.
