DMVing with award winning journalist Brandy Simms

On episode 16 of the Steel City Nation podcast I’ll interview Brandy Simms. Simms is an award-winning sports journalist who has covered professional, college and high school sports in the DMV for more than 20 years including the Washington Redskins and Washington Mystics. He has an extensive background in both print and broadcast media and has freelanced for SLAM, Dime Magazine and The Washington Post. He captured first place honors in the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association 2006 Editorial Contest for a sports column entitled “Remembering Len Bias.”

The Oakland native began his career at WMAL-AM Radio in Washington, D.C. where he produced the market’s top-rated sports talk show “Sports Call” with host Ken Beatrice. A former Sports Director for “Cable News 21,” Brandy also produced sports at WJLA-TV and served as host of the award-winning “Metro Sports Connection” program on Montgomery Community Television.

We will discuss Brandy’s career and the journey he has taken from Oakland, CA to the DMV.  He will share information about his early career after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh to working at WMAL as the producer of “Sports Call”. Brandy will describe for su his work with the Washington Redskins and the WNBA’s Washington Mystics.Brandy’s contribution to our Decade Definers will feature his five best interviews with athletes from any sport at any level. .
