Arun J. Sanyal, M.D., is professor of medicine and chairman, Division of Gastroenterology, at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. After earning his undergraduate degrees from Patna University and Maulana Azad Medical College, both in India, Dr. Sanyal earned his doctor of medicine degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, a residency in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, Texas, and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at VCU Medical Center, until being named professor of internal medicine, gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. Dr. Sanyal is the author of more than 80 articles in peer review medical journals including being co-author of a recent paper entitled:."Pioglitazone, Vitamin E, Or Placebo For Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis," in the New England Journal of Medicine in May of 2010.
