Kirk Hamilton interviews Stella L. Volpe, PhD, RD a nutritionist and exercise physiologist whose areas of research are obesity and diabetes prevention, metabolic syndrome, thyroid metabolism, bone mineral density,  mineral metabolism, body composition and exercise. Dr. Volpe was on faculty at the University of Massachusetts from 1994 through 2003 before beginning her faculty appointment in January 2004 at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Volpe is co-director of the Institute for Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism, all in the School of Medicine. Dr. Volpe teaches multiple courses in the School of Nursing. She is involved with a current study on the role of magnesium glycinate supplementation in metabolic syndrome and is co-author of the article, "Therapeutic Uses of Magnesium", in Am Fam Physician, 2009;80(2):157-162.
