Superman, Batman, Iron man, Wonder Woman, Spider-man, and all the other comic characters, their superhero stories are part of so many childhoods. Comic books are not just entertainment they can help kids and adults alike through hard times with uplifting stories, or act a way to pique a child's interest in reading. Superheroes push us to be better in our own lives, and Kansas has a new hero to look up to.

Matt DeCoursey welcomes the person behind Kansas’s new superhero, Juaquan Herron also known as Jay Allen. Herron is the CEO and creator of the comic "Scarlet Knight."

After graduating, he went to Los Angeles where he met his mentor Scott Brown, who taught him how to write a great story. He went back to his hometown in Kansas City where he wrote and developed “The Scarlet Knight,” a character that mirrors Herron’s experiences growing up in the city’s urban core. Not only does the comic’s name harken back to his alma mater, but the family dynamic depicted in the story also hits close to home where a version of his grandparents plays an important role.

His journey to the comic world was not easy, but with the challenges he faced, he was able to learn a lot of things. Check out the podcast to find out how Herron navigated the ups and downs of the comic book business.
