As a therapist in private practice or starting a counseling practice you are on the front lines with clients. That gives you a unique window into seeing what is, and is not working with clients, and noticing themes. You may at one point consider confirming some of these hypotheses through research. While performing research while in school isn't easy, there is a LOT of support.
