Star Trek: Age of Discovery is a fan podcast for the CBS All-Access show STAR TREK: DISCOVERY.

In this second special episode, we look at the treatment of people of color within the Star Trek universe. Primarily, we focus on the five live-action television series.

As you know, the Original Series (TOS) was a groundbreaking cultural phenomenon of multicultural casting – not just in regular cast members, but also in the case of guest actors and those performing in supporting roles. The most perfect example of this is African-American actor William Marshall portraying Dr. Richard Daystrom, inventor of the computronic and duotronic computer system in “The Ultimate Computer.”

Now, let’s dive into our analysis of people of color as represented in Star Trek.
