EP 4: "Our Enemies in Blue" Episode-Police Shoot Jacob Blake and NBA, LeBron, and George Hill Respond, Malcolm X and Toronto Raptors Boycotting ECSF Game 1?

Hey everyone! My name is Miguel Garcia and I’m the host of the Sports As A Weapon Podcast…A working-class sports podcast on the entanglement of pro sports, radical politics, & working-class sports fan culture…. And we just talk about sports too!

In today’s episode, I will be discussing Police Violence and the continued police killings of Black People. Specifically, I will focus today’s show on the shooting of Jacob Blake by Police in Wisconsin this past Sunday and the outrage from the black community and NBA players like George Hill and LeBron James. Blake was shot in the back 7 times at point-blank range by white police officers in broad daylight and in front of his children.

To end today’s show, I also discussed last week’s newly released video from June 2019 of Alameda County Sherriff Deputy Alan Strickland pushing Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri moments after the Toronto Raptors had defeated the Golden State Warriors in game 6 of the NBA Finals to capture their first-ever NBA championship and discuss previous police brutality incidents involving two NBA players, Sterling Brown and Thabo Sefolosha. Finally, I will end the show with my thoughts on LeBron James reading “The Autobiography of Malcolm-X" and Breaking News came in as I was recording that the Toronto Raptors could boycott game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus the Boston Celtics on Thursday...
