It’s just like “show and tell,” except it’s about movies, and we don’t actually show them, and you’re not in a classroom, so it’s nothing like “show and tell.” It’s a reverse-engineering of the movie review podcast genre that strips it down to its basics. Unlike most other movie podcasts, which pick a topic and commit to a set of films to watch regardless of whether or not they’re interesting to talk about, movie nerds JD and Nic choose movies to watch based on the fascinating conversations they generate. In each episode, one of the hosts (or a special guest) chooses a movie that demands discussion, for better or worse, and the other host is forced to watch it. With selection of films that only a pair of total geeks could put together, from obscure personal favorites to iconic cultural juggernauts, JD and Nic hope to use this silly podcast about dorky movies to better understand the cultures of the world and each other.

Pinocchio (1940) w/ Noel MacNeal

January 15, 2021 17:14 - 1 hour - 152 MB

A few months ago, JD and Nicholas were attempting another project focused on animated films and the works of Walt Disney, and they recorded a conversation with puppeteer Noel MacNeal (Bear in the Big Blue House, Between the Lions, Last Week Tonight) about one of his favorite Disney films, Pinocchio. They decided that it just HAD […]

The Big Chill (1983)

January 01, 2021 05:45 - 1 hour - 120 MB

CONTENT WARNING: The film discussed in this episode, The Big Chill, deals with heavy subjects (specifically suicide). Some listeners may wish not to watch it, but worry not: this episode is enjoyable regardless of whether or not the listener has seen the movie. JD and Nic have a very simple task in this episode: explaining the […]

Scrooge (1970)

December 18, 2020 05:21 - 1 hour - 145 MB

In their first holiday episode, JD and Nic try to unpack not only the beloved story of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, but the odd legacy of its first major musical adaptation, Scrooge, starring Albert Finney and Alec Guinness. This episode may or may not contain shirtless executioner demons covered in oil.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

December 11, 2020 22:46 - 1 hour - 157 MB

It’s Nic’s choice this time, and he’s making JD watch Academy Award-winning auteur Guillermo del Toro’s wacky comic book movie about a demon, a fish, some elves, tooth fairies, and a German gas man. JD tries to convince Nic that this beloved cult favorite is actually not a very good movie.

Dragonslayer (1981)

December 11, 2020 20:49 - 1 hour - 143 MB

In their first episode, movie nerds JD Hansel and Nicholas Lemon discuss an obscure ’80s Disney fantasy film with animatronic dragons, great British old people, and *gasp* female nudity?! Is this one of Disney’s underrated “Dark Ages” classics, or is it best left in the vault? JD and Nic, as usual, see it very differently.
