This week we are joined once again by Stephen Walker and this time to discuss the 60th anniversary of the mission of Enos, the only chimpanzee to have orbited the Earth in space. He also taught us so much about the use of animals in space from the very beginning right up until what is happening now.

Stephen Walker released a new book earlier this year called Beyond, about the incredible race to put the first human in space, but his research covered the whole of that early space program and the book opens with accounts of some the dogs who were flown into space by Russia, and so it seemed like a good fit to discuss Enos with him. Stephen previously joined us on episode 49 to talk about Gherman Titov and on episode 32 to talk about that first human spaceflight made by Yuri Gagarin.
