We chat with Professor/ Coach Gordon Marino about his new book "The Existentialist's Survival Guide: How to Live Authentically in an Inauthentic Age," the benefits of existential philosophy, the coach/ athlete relationship, and then we cover lots and lots of boxing. It's one of our most fun episodes.
Gordon Marino is a professor of philosophy at St. Olaf College. A veteran boxing coach, Marino is also an award-winning boxing writer for The Wall Street Journal and has worked with HBO boxing. His work has appeared in the New York Times, The Atlantic, Newsweek, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and many other domestic and international publications.

Also per Gordon's suggestion, check out Crito by Plato (The dialogue takes place in Socrates' prison cell, where he awaits execution. He is visited before dawn by his old friend Crito, who has made arrangements to smuggle Socrates out of prison to the safety of exile): http://classics.mit.edu/Plato/crito.html
