A lot of soccer players can go their entire playing career never playing for a national team. An even smaller crowd get to the level where they get to represent their nation at the World Cup. Celia Jiménez Delgado at age 24 already has two World Cups campaigns under her belt. The Spanish international defender was drafted by Reign FC in 2018 and officially joined the squad this season this year.
The year gap allowed her to complete her degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama, but she was still active on the soccer field. Splitting time at Seattle Sounder Women and FC Rosengård in Sweden allowed her to ease into a squad that has mainstays like Megan Rapinoe and Jess Fishlock, but also be part of a rising crops of young players that can play now and for years to come for Reign FC.
On this episode of "Coffee & Valkyries," get to know Celia, from chasing a dream of becoming a professional soccer player as a child to the present as her and her team prepare for a midweek rivalry match.
