Matt and Steve are bringing you this week's news and updates in Pittsburgh sports. From NCAA hoops coverage to major league content for NFL, NHL, and MLB, if it's happening in (or in some cases affecting) Pittsburgh, this is where you'll find out about it. If you're a fan of soccer or golf, Matt and Steve have some highlights there as well.
This week's show notes:
Riverhounds- Won 1-0 over Cleveland St last Friday with the lone goal at the 84th min from
Mark Forrest (trialist) ,and on the Sunday Match vs Gannon University with a win 6-0 . This up
coming Friday Feb 15th Duquesne University take on the Hounds and Sunday the 17th @2pm
University of Charleston WV head north to take on the Hounds. Both games are FREE to
attend.
WPIAL- Bob Palko, long time FB Coach at West A Retired after last season from Coaching and
Teaching after 24yrs. 217-73 8WPIAL Championships. Well Retirement is making him “crawl
out of his skin”he said and was hired to take over the Mt Lebanon FB Coaching position, Mike
Melnyk resigned after a 44-31 record and only 6 playoff appearances in 7 years.
Steelers- The AB an Bell Saga continues. AB didn’t show up for court today for his reckless
driving issues, also formally requested a trade or his release. The Steelers are thinking about
applying the Transition tag on Bell to try to get something in return for him, or have an option to
sign him for less. Also Breaking, James Harrison thinks he can make a serious run at
acting. Watch out The Rock
PGA Tour- Last weekends Pebble Beach ProAm went to Monday morning to finish the last two
holes due to darkness. Michelson came away with a 3 stroke lead for his 44th career win and
his 5th in the ProAm. This week the Genesis Open at Riviera Golf Club in the Pacific Palisades
CA to start Thursday. Tiger, Rory, and Justin Thomas paired together Thursday and Friday.
Pitt Hoops- Took a loss to NC State, Pitt was in the game the whole way. They overcame a 18
point deficit at one point with a 20-2 run. Pitt had BC tonight and ???
WVU Hoops- is also having a tough down year with 6 losses in a row, 2-9 Conference and
10-14 overall.
Duquesne Hoops- 7-4 Conference 16-8 overall took a loss to the Bonnies, a win over Fordham,
and have LaSalle tomorrow night. They are 5th in the Conference
Bobby Mo- had a nice win over Bryant, took a loss to Central CT, and have Mt St Marys on
Thursday, they lead the Northeast Conference 89-4 13-12 overall with St Francis on their heals.
Penguins- the Pens have dropped 4 out of last 5 with a nice complete game against the Flyers
last night. Malkin got heated after a punch to back of his neck and swung his stick and had a
meeting today with the NHL. Letang Now leads all Pens D men with Most Goals surpassing
Paul Coffee. The Pens find themselves in 4th in the division and 8th in the Conference.
Pirates- Pitchers and Catchers reported, Melky Cabrera signed a Minor league deal with over 2
mill in incentives, Cervelli Trade talks and he just shuts it out and plays, Liriano is looking to
make the big club, and willing to accept any role, last 2 seasons was used as a reliever.
Garth Brooks in Camp- 20th anniversary of Teammates for kids Foundation. The Foundation
gives kids around the world a even start in life. Works with several sports athletes but it all
started with baseball and Jason Kendal when he was with the Padres. Garth was a Clemente
fan as a kid which made him a pirates fan, he realized the Clemente died trying to help kids
and people in his a homie country, he vowed to at some point in his life to help kids through
baseball.
