Morbid Angel,  the American death metal band considered one of the most influential acts in the genre and important in the transition of death metal from its thrash metal roots, is back in full swing. After their 2011 studio album entitled Illud Divinum Insanus, a record which raised a few eyebrows due to the strange musical direction and significant changes in the lineup, the band has returned to what they do best:  putting out a relentless avalanche of familiar crushing heaviness and forward-thinking technical intricacies paired growling vocals in their most recent effort Kingdoms Disdained, unanimously praised by critics and fans alike. Kingdoms Disdained represents a return to classic Morbid Angel waters without sounding like a parody of themselves. Renewed and reinvigorated by the response to this release, the band will soon embark on a tour through North America, bringing be Misery Index, Origin, Dreaming Dead and Hate Storm Annihilation as opening acts.

Sonic Perspectives’ contributor Rodrigo Altaf spoke with Morbid Angel’s bass player and singer Steve Tucker, and they addressed the upcoming tour, the new album and lineup, and many other aspects of the band.
