Welcome to another episode of Something…came from Baltimore. I am your host Tom Gouker and tonight on the phone all the way from England Chris Illgworth. Chris is the piano player in the jazz trio GoGo Penguin.
I found out about GoGo Penguin last year while I was listening to music on random and I heard this song, “All Res” and I was blown away. Then I listened to “Man Made Objects” which was released in 2016 on the Blue Note. As a music fan, sometimes you find a music gift that you want to share with other, music that you know will blow your friends away.
As a host of a radio show, it is my job to interview musicians and hear how they create their music and how they take their vision turn it into art.
I just want to put the disclaimer out now, that I have been gushing about this band for over a year. If I was Oprah, GoGo Penguin would be my “NEW BEST THING”.
So, I am so excited as a fan and a radio show host to be able to have the opportunity to chat with Chris Illgworth to discuss their new record “A Humdrum Star” which was just released in the states to outstanding reviews. Reviewers are calling it the most satisfying album of there career so far, and the close record to the jazz format so far…and we will discuss that later in the interview.
