There is a lot to consider when it comes to running an HR-compliant business and sometimes business owners violate the law without intending to or realizing it. When it comes to hiring especially, there are certain questions that are considered discriminatory and are both inappropriate and illegal to ask. Race, color, or ethnic background. Religion or religious practices. Gender or sexual orientation. Marital status, family planning, or pregnancy. Age or date of birth. Disabilities or health conditions. National origin or immigration status. Financial status, credit history, or bankruptcy. Arrest records or criminal history. Labor union memberships or lawful activities outside of the workplace.
