Stupid (and Illegal) Interview Questions You Should Never Ask

There is a lot to consider when it comes to running an HR-compliant business and sometimes business owners violate the law without intending to or realizing it. When it comes to hiring especially, there are certain questions that are considered discriminatory and are both inappropriate and illegal to ask. In this week’s episode of the Entrepreneur to Employer podcast, I’m helping you to avoid asking stupid (and illegal) questions in the hiring process. 

In this episode, Brian talks about his personal experience of being asked inappropriate and frankly, irrelevant questions during an interview and reminds you that there are certain things you just shouldn’t be judging people on when deciding if someone is fit for the role. 

10 Topics or questions you should never ask in an interview are:

Race, color, or ethnic background. Religion or religious practices. Gender or sexual orientation. Marital status, family planning, or pregnancy. Age or date of birth. Disabilities or health conditions. National origin or immigration status. Financial status, credit history, or bankruptcy. Arrest records or criminal history. Labor union memberships or lawful activities outside of the workplace.
